Staxel Board: Talking Letter Board

Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 18, 2026

Staxel Board is made by Staxel (we, us). This policy covers the Staxel Board app for iPhone and iPad.

We do not collect anything. The app has no account and no sign-in, there is no server behind it, and it makes no network requests of any kind. Everything it does happens on your device, and everything it keeps stays there. The rest of this page explains what that means for the two things people ask about most — the camera and the messages you type.

1. The camera

Staxel Board can be driven by a hand cursor, which needs the front camera. If you use it that way, the app asks for camera access.

  • Camera frames go to the hand-tracking model running on your device and to the preview you see on screen. They go nowhere else. No frame is written to storage, saved to your photo library, sent to us, or sent to anyone else.
  • Nothing is recorded. The app has no recording feature and no way to export a frame.
  • The hand-tracking models are part of the app, installed with it. They do not call out to anything while they run.
  • You can turn the camera off as an input entirely — Hand control in the in-board settings drawer — and use the board by touch. Or simply decline camera access: the board works by touch without it.

2. What is stored on your device

The app keeps a small amount of data in its own storage on the device, so that it is the same board the next time you open it:

  • Your settings — key size, handedness, which voice, sounds on or off, hand tracking and pointer tuning.
  • Saved messages. Sentences you choose to save, so you can play them again. Up to 50 are kept, oldest dropped first, and pinned ones kept.
  • Words you have used. The board learns the words and word-pairs you actually type, to put better suggestions in front of you. This is a word list, held on the device, never sent anywhere.

We never see any of it. If you back up your device, this data is inside that backup, which is Apple’s — covered by Apple’s own terms and encryption, not by us. Deleting the app deletes all of it from the device.

3. Speech

The board speaks using the speech synthesizer built into iOS, with whichever voice you pick in Settings. The text of your message is handed to the operating system on the device to be spoken. We do not see it, keep it, or send it anywhere.

4. No tracking, no analytics, no advertising

  • There is no analytics SDK, no advertising SDK, and no third-party code in the app that reports anything about you.
  • We do not use Apple’s advertising identifier, do not track you across apps or websites, and have nothing to sell because we hold nothing.
  • The word suggestions come from a dictionary that ships inside the app, not from a service. Nothing you type is sent anywhere to be completed.

5. What Apple sees

Downloading the app is a transaction between you and Apple, and Apple’s privacy policy covers it. Two things reach us through Apple rather than through the app:

  • App Store analytics — anonymous, aggregated figures about downloads and crashes, only if you have left Apple’s “Share With App Developers” setting on. It names nobody.
  • TestFlight, while the app is in testing — Apple gives us the email address you used to join and any feedback you choose to send. That is Apple’s process; leaving the beta ends it.

6. This website

These four pages set no cookies, run no analytics and load nothing from a third party. Your theme choice is stored by your own browser and never leaves it. Our web host keeps ordinary server logs, as any web server does.

7. Children

Staxel Board is built to be used by children as well as adults, often with a parent, teacher or therapist. Because the app collects no personal information from anyone, it collects none from a child — there is no account to create, no profile, no message or photograph leaving the device, and nothing for us to hold, disclose or delete.

8. Your rights

Data-protection law gives you rights to see, correct, export and delete the personal data a company holds about you. We hold none, so there is nothing for us to produce or erase. The data on your device is yours: change it in the app, or delete the app to remove all of it. If you would like us to confirm that in writing, write to the address below and we will.

9. Changes

When this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. If the app ever starts collecting anything, we will say so here and in the app before it does.
